Make friends with Washington Wine

Here are some wine highlights. March is wine month in Washington State. In Seattle, restaurants, wine shops and tasting rooms celebrate the state’s wines throughout the month. This culminates in the four-day Taste Washington extravaganza, 22nd– 25th March in 2018, featuring top chefs and the region’s best winemakers. Menus revolve around the state’s signature ingredients.

Year round, Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center, in Prosser serves as a central gathering place for industry and consumers to discover Washington wine and agriculture through engaging events and innovative programmes.  Right next door, Desert Wind Winery has some wonderful south western adobe style lodging.

The Lodge, newly opened at Columbia Point, Richland and the Courtyard by Marriott alongside, have a splendid riverside location from which to tour Red Mountain wineries.

POUR is a superb Saturday celebration in August by Seattle urban wineries.

Cave B Winery and Estate has an incredible range of memorable accommodation including 15 stand-alone Cliffehouses, 12 Cavern Rooms, three Inn Suites, and 25 Desert Yurts.

Decanter Travel Guide focused on the wonderful Walla Walla wine region of Washington for its June 2017 edition.

Tim and Kelly Hightower at Red Mountain have one of the sweetest winery dogs in the world, as well as producing some superb premium reds.

Watersports and wine may seem unlikely bedfellows until you know about Lake Chelan, in Washington State – waterskiing, wakeboarding, boating, paddleboarding, and snorkeling are all possible right alongside Lake Chelan’s  American Viticultural Area (AVA), one of 14 in Washington State. AVAs are America’s equivalent to France’s Appelation Controllee.

But, if you want to windsurf and quaff wine (ideally not at the same time!) Columbia Gorge is THE place.

Cherry Wood Bed Breakfast and Barn in the Yakima Valley offers winery rides on horseback or via their “cowboy limo”.

For legal eagles, Barrister Winery is one of 16 on the Spokane wine and beer trailBarrister claims the unique distinction of a gentle vibration from 25,000 trains passing their downtown winery annually, which improves the flavour.
