MoPOP, The Museum of Pop Culture, formerly EMP, is a leading-edge nonprofit museum, dedicated to the ideas and risk-taking that fuel contemporary popular culture. With its roots in rock ‘n’ roll, MoPOP serves as a gateway museum, reaching multigenerational audiences through collections, exhibitions, and educational programmes, using interactive technologies to engage and empower visitors.

Twin Peaks, 25 years on, is due to start a new series, to be shown in the UK from 22nd/23rd May. 25 miles east of Seattle, around Salish Lodge, Snoqualmie, (aka Great Northern Hotel), lies a series of sites associated with the filming. The Twin Peaks driving tour map includes: Great Northern Hotel, Packard Sawmill, Sheriff’s Station, Ronette’s Bridge, Giant Log, Twin Peaks High School, Old Snoqualmie Winery, Double R Diner and The Roadhouse.

Virgin Atlantic will commence daily non-stop flights from Heathrow to Seattle, taking over the Delta Air Lines route on March 27th.  This also opens the potential to use Seattle as a route from London to Honolulu.  Being closer to the Great Circle, this cuts about 30 minutes in the air compared to going via San Francisco and is an hour shorter compared to routing via Los Angeles.  The scheduled outbound layover at Seattle, 2 hours 5 minutes, is particularly good.  Sea-Tac has outstanding ground connections for a Seattle stopover on the return flight.

Seattle’s top site for visitors, Pike Place Market is growing for the first time in 40 years.  MarketFront, opening June 29th, is an expansion which reclaims the site for farmers and producers. It will provide a dynamic public plaza with views of Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains, an all-weather canopy with table space for farmers, craftspeople and artisan purveyors, retail space, low-income housing, a neighbourhood centre and parking.

The $74 million MarketFront project realises a long-held vision of Market advocates, who won historic designation for the 9-acre neighborhood in 1971. The MarketFront will complete the historic district after more than 40 years of study and planning. Its design and use were created in accordance of Market historic district guidelines and the Pike Place Market charter.

Eat Seattle is offering new chef-guided tours and cooking classes at Pike Place Market. A two-hour tour of Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market takes guests on a journey through Pacific Northwest culture. The tour features artisan vendors and offers tips on where the chefs shop, how they select their seasonal produce and daily proteins. Eat Seattle also offers a new 3½ hour farm-to-table cooking class and produce tour through the Pike Place Market guided by a chef who will explain the local and seasonal produce as he or she selects the ingredients for a 3-course menu to be cooked. The tour concludes in the Atrium Kitchen where the chef guides guests in preparing the menu and also provides tips on cooking techniques.
