Increasing awareness of Seattle and Washington State as a superb tourist destination has been a significant contributor driving 8% passenger growth at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. This pushed the Airport to the 9th busiest in the USA in 2016, jumping from 13th the year before. The increase in international passenger traffic has been even greater, up 11% to 4.9 million passengers last year.

Sea-Tac passenger traffic hit a record level for the sixth year in a row. The airport served 45.7 million passengers. This was more than London Gatwick in 2016. The 8 percent passenger growth rate is Sea-Tac’s second largest in the past two decades, topped only by 2015’s 12.9 percent increase.

During 2016, Port of Seattle (which manages Sea-Tac Airport as well as the cruise port facilities) authorised US $2 billion worth of capital improvement projects aimed at managing the current and future airport expansion as well as providing even higher service standards. At a time when airport improvements to south east England are painfully slow, Sea-Tac continues to press the growth accelerator in a sustainable, responsible manner.

For many UK visitors, a pre or post cruise stay in Seattle and Washington State enriches their experience of an Alaska cruise.
